In some cases we as a whole have some time off around mid-afternoon and play a game together. More often than not, I simply ensure we mess around so we as a whole have a great time together. I can get so up to speed in things that I’ll go starting with one errand then onto the next and neglect to have a great time.
Today, after a few requests from my children, I got out the Uno cards. Today I would play with six-year-old Ryan and three-year-old Maegan. Previously, Maegan would sit on my lap and help me with my cards; however today, she needed to be her “own group”.
“That’s right,” she replied and put down a yellow card on top of the heap.

“That is one point for the group ‘My Little Horse’ (as she had named her group),” I praised her. She radiated proudly. She had won and she had done everything without help from anyone else.
As I stayed there respecting her achievement, I understood that it is so natural to pass up on open doors like this that are instructive in nature. This game showed her alternating, arranging, tones, and shapes.
